Why I Love Snacking Dinners

Ask me what I want to eat when I have a night to myself—a night I can take a step back from the demands of family life and make something just for me—and the picture I’ll paint is a snacking meal that is all delight, zero obligation. Sardines and chiles on crackers. Fruit and burrata with crostini. These are meals that feel like a respite from the demands of the world. Of course, if someone else is home and hungry, they can eat it too….

While this type of low-lift, high-reward meal has recently been refreshed under the “girl dinner” trend, snacking meals have always been the secret weapon of busy people (especially women) of all ages, from professionals who get home too late and too tired to stand over a stove to harried moms who need to get dinner on the table fast (and make it fun for a picky audience). They’re endlessly versatile, accommodating to any food preference, and can be scaled up and down easily, making them as perfect for a solo eater as they are for a family full of young kids.

While this idea originally started with my upcoming cookbook, also named SNACKING DINNERS (please consider pre-ordering a copy!), there are endless snacking dinner options out there, and I keep finding new ways to make my meals snackable—and turn my favorite snacks into meals. I also wanted to share my favorite snacking recipes from other cooks/cookbooks as well as any snacking resources I come across.
